[PLUG] video support

hi, i've got a machine that i'm trying to set up Linux on (RH 5.1, cause i
have the CD) and i'm having a weird video problem. when i start up X the
video has these incredibly strange static-like horizontal lines going
across it (kinda hard to describe, unfortunately), and the outer 2 inches
(or so) of the screen isn't used. (the whole screen is used for tty only).

i've tried playing with configuration for the screen (i can't remember the
exact file, something that ends with '.config' and lives in /etc/vga/) so
i think the settings are well within the capabilities of the monitor..
the monitor is a plain vanilla 14" SVGA, and it works fine with other
OS's..

the only thing i can think of is that there is no actual video RAM, the
board uses some of the regular RAM.

any ideas?

thanks,
peter
