[PLUG] video speckles

Does anyone know what might cause little white speckles (precisely, short
3-4 pixel horizontal lines with 1-pixel height) to appear randomly on the
display in X? They appear for a brief instant then disappear.. It
doesn't happen in Windows, although I don't use windows much. OTOH, in X,
it's very regular, they appear every second or so. Dragging a window
opaquely or scrolling in Netscape will cause lots of them to appear. It
happens to me with a Viper V330 (Riva128) and an S3 ViRGE, on two totally
different systems, two different monitors.. the only constant is that I'm
using the XF86_SVGA server. I even tried making a custom modeline
according to ESR's howto and tweaking with xvidtune.
On a completely different subject.. I think it would be nice if we could
get the newsgroup and the mailing list to be linked together, because it's
kind-of annoying getting 15 messages a day in my main inbox, but there's
some stuff that I won't want to miss..
