Perhaps I'm in correct, but doesn't the S3 ViRGE use its own Xserver?  Isn't
there one for it?  I didn't think that it used the SVGA server...  

I was also under the impression that work on the Riva128 is just now
progressing.  

If it really becomes an annoyance, I've noticed (when I had this problem on my
laptop) that lowering the colors/resolution will help.
