[PLUG] KDM

Is anyone succesfully using KDM to start KDE?  I have been playing with
it for about three days and all that happens is the login screen comes
up I type in my login and password and then the screen flickers and I
come back to the login screen..  I have KDE working just fine through
startx.  I check xdm-errors file and other than the normal XF86 server
info these two lines are the only thing that seems erroneous:

Wrong charset (unknown) ! Setting to default (us-ascii)
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)

I have diligently tried to RTFM and I checked around the various
newsgroups for obvious solutions.. While it seems that many other people
have had this problem, I have not sees a solution..  Any help would be
greatly appreciated..
