Greetings everyone!
As promised, here are the meetings and news from the last PLUG meeting (sorry
it took me so long, I was out of town).
1) We announced that PLUG is now an offical Purdue Student Organization again!
This is what caused the disappearance of the webpage on expert. The page should
be back on Monday or Tuesday of this week. This is good news for all of us. We
can now "rent" rooms any where on campus. And it's gaurenteed that I will get
a new piece of junk mail from Purdue each week! (yee haa)
2) I, Rick, am now the Official President of Plug
3) Marc Senn is now our new Official Faculty Advisor! At the meeting I
introduced him to everyone. I'll be sure to do so again at the next meeting
4) A recomendation was made to 1) cut down on the mailing list traffic (I
recomended using the news group purdue.student-org.plug) and 2) Have a
"Web-Board" on the webpage for discussions also. Also The idea of having
all the emails from the mailing list onto a webpage also. I will be looking
into this as soon as the expert web page gets back up.
5) Many other small discussions happened, I forget what else was said (I'll
take better notes at the next meeting - or if someone wants to volunteer
to take notes that would be great <wink><wink>) There was a good discussion on
Cable Modems and ADSL. Marc Senn is going to try to work on having a person
from GTE (Or another company) to come to the meeting to talk about ADSL
technology.
6) Melvin Toh (A fellow member of PLUG) Gave a great little talk on the
introduction to Linux. He talked about what you need to know before you
install, and what you will need to know after you install. His notes will
be online at the website very soon! Many thanks to Melvin!
7) The idea of using the slashdot code (from http://slashdot.org) for our
webpage was kinda put on the back burner because of the problems it would
present with using the SQL stuff (and other stuff) on the expert machine.
I think for the time being, the webpage should stay on expert.cc.

The next meeting will be on a Tuesday or a Thursday (per request) The main
question is, when will that be? Is DEAD week a good or bad week for a meeting?
If it isn't , we can wait till next semester! Please send me a PRIVATE email
with your opinion (redmanrs@cs.purdue.edu)
