[PLUG] (XFS || ext3) || (ext4 == XFS + ext3) ?

One of the pieces of Max's little summary of what Linux is/does/etc
raised my curiousity. I've seen that SGI is going to open the source to
XFS and port it to Linux, but I haven't seen any clear reaction to what
the Linux community plans to do with it. Is it still up in the air
(pending seeing the actual XFS source, and the modifications that it would
require to Linux), or has Linus/AC or the other big Linux daddies decided
anything? I know there was an 'ext3' in the works, and I am wondering how
this is effecting it. I don't see having 2 standard filesystems for Linux
being a real option, so someone has to win. I read a lot of the
information linked to off of /., but again didn 't see anything solid.
Maybe a hybrid, taking the best parts of both projects would be a real
solution (creating an 'ext4'), but I don't really know.
Comments would be appreciated..
