i'm really not "extreme" but i do play my share of q3. i play it now in
windows but i wanted to try it in linux.
right now i get around 80 fps in q3 and while i know it won't be that much
in linux i heard that ping times are
reduced in linux compared to windows so thats why i wanted to try it.

well my monitor is 19" and 1600x1200 while nice is unreasonable and
unnecessary for me. i run in 800x600 in q3.
so should i gry and upgrade to X4.0.0 and leave X4.0.1 alone?

supports glide/opengl games. in the control panel it does have mesa morph3d
and mesa gears that i can run but i don't think that will help me. if
someone has a v3 comfigured correctly so for example so i can play q3/ut/etc

i installed some glide libraries from the 3dfx linux driver site. i used
rpm --rebuild Device3dfx-2.3-5.src.rpm and it seemed to install but
i got a "bad exit status from var/tmp/rpm-tmp.56984 (%Install)". according
to the site after rpm'ing that there should be another module
Device3dfx-2.3-4.i386.rpm but
when i looked in the rpm tree for it all there was was a folder with some
3dfx *.c files in it but no other rpm file to install. i did install the
Glide_SDK-2.2-16.i386.rpm because it is supposed to contail header files
necessary for compiling mesa software.

yeah i need to get mesa but i was hoping to get at least the drivers
installed then worry about mesa but i can't even get gaming drivers
installed.
maybe i need to upgrade to kernel 2.2.15?

neither do i. i've only had mandrake installed two days and only the v3 is
giving me gaming problems. i'm still learning the basics and i was hoping
somebody already figured all this out. sounds like i need to invest in
another graphics card.

athlon 650, 192 ram (for some reason linux doesn't recognize all of it),
sound blaster 128, v3 2000 pci, 10 gig hard drive (dual win/linux boot), tv
card. thanks for any help you can give me.
