[PLUG] boot fail

I have attempted to boot on several 486's with the RH v6.0 boot disk so that I
could install linux on the systems.  However, after the:

 SYSLINUX blah blah blah.....

expert blah
kickstart blah
blah blah blah


boot:
<enter>
loading....

boot failed!

// does anyone know what causes this?
How can I load linux around it? 
It also occurs on bootable CD roms
Is it specifically the RH disk that does this for some odd reason?
Has anyone else had this occur or am I crazy?
why is it specific to 486's?
