Or get a copy of a single floppy linux (e.g pocket linux). Boot up and run
lilo (pocket linux will mount any ext2 partitions when you boot, so it
really is that easy...), then reboot and ta dahh!

I also find it useful for temporarily turning library windows boxen into a
console to ssh into my linux box... :)

(but he already has a boot disk...so this is a moot point, ah well,
anything to get a break from real work...)
