Recently on the PLUG (Purdue Linux Users Group) mailing list there has
been discussion of a possible "Linux Expo" at Purdue. I, along with
others, think that this is a great idea. I would like to invite all
those who are interested in putting such an event together to come and
discuss ideas and to get things rolling. An Expo such as this is not
some thing that can be whipped together in a week. It will take some
months in planning in order to make it successful. If you are
interested in attending the first organization meeting of the "Purdue
Linux Expo" (proposed event title), come to the place and time as
follows:
Date: Monday March 6, 2000
Time: 7:00pm
Place: CS Undergrad Lounge (basement of CS building)
I don't have the ability to offer pizza and soft drinks, but if someone
wants to provide you are more than welcome. Email me and let me know.
Note that this is purely an organizational meeting to discuss when would
be an appropriate time, where we will get funding, location of the
event, and other major and minor details. Bring your ideas, interests,
and other to discuss.
Sorry for the mass spam, but this is the easiest way to let everyone
know about it. This is going to be a great way to show off Linux to
those who don't know much about it. My goal is not to provide to just
newbies or linux know-it-alls. I want to cater to as many people as
possible, newbies and techies. Also, we don't have to limit it to
Linux. We can do the BSDs as well and other free software. I don't
want to limit our participation or audience in any way.
To keep traffice off of the lists that I've sent this to, please
subscribe to the linuxexpo mailing list. Here's the info on how:
By the web, go to:
http://csociety.ecn.purdue.edu/mailman/listinfo/linuxexpo
and fill out the nifty form.
By email, send to:
linuxexpo-request@csociety.purdue.edu
with "help" as the subject.
If you send email directly to me concerning this, I will assume that you
wish to particiate and take the liberty to adding you to the linuxexpo
list so that others interested can see your comments.
Thanks for your time. For those of you who consider this SPAM, well,
sorry.
