It has something to do with mac compatibility I think.  I have a couple
zip disks I repartitioned in both Linux with ext2fs and DOS with vfat.  I
just moved it to the 1st primary so that makes it /dev/sd?1 or /dev/hd?1.
I haven't gone anywhere near any mac's with them though. :)
