Well I have a machine running snort gathering network intrusion
information. It's connected two three networks one to report the
findings which is addressable the other two interfaces are for
collecting information on two networks and neither one of those two
interfaces have IP addresses assigned to them. Now everything goes
along just fine for awhile, but every few days I can't do anything with
the machine. When this happens the screen starts scrolling messages
like this:
VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for <processname>...
Now it usually scrolls a few processes like init, etc. Today the only
one that it was scrolling was watchdog.
I installed watchdog the otherday to see if it could reboot the machine
when this happened but it doesn't seem to have worked.
The machine is Running Mandrake 7.0 with a custom built kernel version
2.2.16. The ethernet cards are 3com 905b's and the machine is an Athlon
700. Anyone got any ideas? Or know what the VM message means or what
can be done to stop it from saying that?
