Nope, that's not it either (but it looked interesting!)

Immediately between the SYSLINUX and loading second stage ramdisk
during the Mandrake 7.1 install, it looks to be loading services
like a standard boot process, but there is a large picture of Tux
in the upper lefthand corner, with text (machine information?) to
his right -- the services page under Tux...

It might be a framebuffer install; can you change the picture and
picture size?
