Network modules are located in /lib/modules/2.*.*/net
Also, try
modprobe rtl8139
However, if you get a net connection on startup, but lose it
shortly after, check the output of ifconfig when you lose the connection.
It might be network related as opposed to hardware. If ifconfig shows your
eth0 adapter, (with ip address, netmask, etc) that means it is up and
running. (At least at a hardware level.) You might want to also check your
network settings to make sure they are ok.
