[PLUG] about domain name registration...

Like I said, I don't know much about the email forwarding part, but I can
help with the other
points.
a. That's the easy part just register it with your credit card at
www.register.com :)
b. Dunno (but you could get up a mail server on your machine: Mdaemon is
good for windows, linux has it built in)
c. This is also easy, I used to use Win32 Apache (www.apache.org),
configuring it for a simple website is no big
deal if you read through the conf file. The act of pointing
www.whatever.com to your ip is simple as logging
into register.com's "manage your domain" section. clicking a link and
sticking in your IP. It takes about 6-8hrs
for the changes to propagate, some cases it can be as short as 1 or
2hrs, but by 24hrs its pretty much a done
deal.
d. this is where register.com is a little stingy. You can do URL
forwarding: www.foobar.com -> expert.cc.purdue.edu/~foobar
but they consider this a little extra, so they will stick a little ad
bar at the bottom of the screen. you can get rid of the ad
bar for paying them a some more money to get their "platnium status",
but really if its just for holidays I can live with the
ad bar :)
I'm not affiliated with register.com, its just where I've done the most
time, and I find it really easy and stuff. You can also
specify a virtually unlimited amount of aliases like "purdue.foobar.com ->
www.purdue.edu" or whatever reasons you
have to do that sort of thing. Anyways, thats what I know :)
