what you may want to do is go to ghandi (http://gandi.net/) and get a
domain for 12 euro (about 11 bucks) a year. then, use centralinfo.net
(www.centralinfo.net) for DNS. you get 40 dns entries, for things like
foo.whatever.com, mail.whatever.com, etc. but, you can always put
*.whatever.com for one of the entries to forward everything other than the
specified subdomains to a single server.

centralinfo's website seems to be down right now, but they are free, and
it's extremely easy to change your DNS records.

there are other free dns places too. i would stay away from
granitecanyon.com though, they are dieing a slow death... they don't
update their records anymore.

good luck
