Hey all, I know we all discussed keeping job postings off the list,
but this guy is on campus and needs some Linux Cluster help. Any of
you interested in helping out, please send him mail at

Dear Chris;
This is Byoung-Do Kim, a graduate student in Aerospace Engineering.
I'm writing this letter for getting some help from PLUG. Actually, I
was going to talk to you after HP's presentation today but couldn't
wait until it is over.
Here is the situation.. My professor is running small Linux cluster
network for his research group. A graduate student who was good at
Linux set up all the machines and was taking care of the network as
a system administrator. Last August, he graduated and now we've got
some of problems here and there. I have been in charge of the system
administrator position but since I was just an end user, it is tough
for me to figure out all those problems. So, I'd like to get someone
from PLUG and have him/her set up the network and I learn what I need
to know while the job is being done. I've talked about this with my
advisor and he is WILLING TO PAY for this job based on how long it takes.
Here is the SPEC;
3 machines of Pentium Pro200 (RH 5.1)
2 machines of Pentium II 450 (RH 5.1/RH 6.9beta)
2 machines of Pentium III 600 (RH 6.2)
1 machine of Alpha chip at 500MHz (RH 5.2 alpha)
All the machines are dual-cpu boxes. Some of them have SCSI-stuff,
some of them are just plain IDE type.
I think I should mention that this is not a formal(?) clustering using
specific clustering software. Basically,we just installed RedHat Linux
on all those machines and set the network up and were running our
parallelized codes.
I really don't know what the best solution is with all the hassles that
we've got so far. What's in my mind is installing RH 6.2 on the machines
and configure the network/security stuff again so that we can get into
pure maintanance phase after that. However, first of all, someone need to
look at it with in-depth knowledge on Linux.
If you have someone in your mind, could you possibly ask him about this?
Then I will reach him and will explain our situation. If you think posting
this message on PLUG board is the best idea, please do so.(with editing,
of course!)Please let me know what you think. Thank you in advance.
Have a good day!
Sincerely,
---------------------------------------------- ByoungDo Kim ------
