[PLUG] Resolution too high.... darn blinking login

Hello,
I'm having a slight problem with my X-Windows. I installed a Linux
partition <loud audible sigh> within a dos partition... yea, don't laugh...
I'm still new to this low-level operating system bit. Anyway, I think I set
the resolution on my X-Windows too deep because instead of booting into the
nifty, graphical login screen, I get a blinking login prompt. Which would
be tolerable if I could type at any time other than when the screen is
showing. Is there some command comprable to the F8 button in the windows
bootup process that will allow me to boot to a more primitive video setting?
or perhaps just to the non-graphical prompt?
Thanks,
-chuck
