[PLUG] dial-up woes

Does anybody on this list know how to dial up to purdue
over linux? My modem seems to be properly set up. It
dials and connects, but then once I try to browse, telnet
(ssh) etc.. nothing is found. Netscrape pukes up an error
saying I may need to set the $SOCKS_DN env. var. What
the fuck is that? I'm guessing it's outdated, but it's
a clue. I figured it just wasn't finding Purdue's DNS
server. So, I went back to winblows, dialed up, and
got a bunch of IPs. Went back to linux and put them
in kPPP (dialer I've had the most luck with) and the
same thing happened. If I can get this to work, I can
completely bomb my winblows partition and be rid of the
evil for good. There must be others that have had this
problem. I'm using Red Hat 7.0 with the 2.4 kernel.

peace
