[PLUG] Boot questions

I have two questions:

1) Caldera and SuSE (and others im sure) use some sort of 'graphical
boot'. I was wondering if there was any documentation on doing this - I
tried throwing google at it with no help. I DO NOT mean "how do I boot in
framebuffer mode" or "how do I make a lilo graphical boot menu" - I know
how to do both of those. Basicall while the kernel boots I want to
display some graphic to obscure the display of kernel messages ( this
will be for a turn-key type system ).

2) What kernel parameters must i pass to reduce/avoid displaying the
kernel messages. I tried a console=ttyX (where X!=0) and that didn't work
- both with and without framebuffer enabled.
