Don't use the DRI that comes with X4.1.0/kernel, use the DRI from
dri.sourceforge.net as Vladimir Dergachev, the guy who develops
ATI drivers at linuxvideo.org, merged his cvs branch at
linuxvideo with the dri tree. So either get the modules from
linuxvideo.org or grab the DRI tree and compile them there or
grab the CVS tree from linuxvideo and compile from there. :)

See http://www.linuxvideo.org/gatos/dri-debug.html for more
information. Vladimir wrote this, so it should help.

You really oughta subscribe to livid-ati@linuxvideo.org.. you can
get good help from there. I've been subscribed for 10 months and
can only say they rule!
