Hello pluggers.
Does anyone know where (online or otherwise) I can purchase a PCMCIA to IDE
interface that will let me hook up a regular 3.5" IDE drive to a notebook?
Oh, and so this isn't off-topic, I need this to work under Linux :)
If you are interested in the background to this problem, I want to add a
bigger hard disk to my 486 laptop. I need about 6 Gb of space and I don't
think this laptop can accept such disks (although I have not called Toshiba
to check). I don't want to get a newer laptop as I cannot get rid of this
one (it belongs to my dad) and it is not doing anything now anyway.
I have found an 8Gb pcmcia disk that works under Linux, but I would rather
get an interface to a normal disk. This laptop is gonna sit in my car and if
the drive fails, I do not want to spend another unholy $150 on a new one.
Asides hunting for the interface on Google, I tried looking for the relevant
cards listed in the Hardware Compatibility HOWTO. It seems the only sites
that mention these cards are mirrors of the same HOWTO. No one seems to sell
the stuff. :( Even the few manufacturers sites have no information about
vendors.
Well, I will stop rambling now. Any help on the matter would be appreciated.
Later,
Dev
