Ok, I got Slackware 8 installed with kernel 2.4.5... when it boots up, it
gets hung up on
sysklogd daemons as follows
sysklogd daemons: /usr/sbin/sysloghda <long pause here> timeout waiting for
DMA
ide_dmaproc: chipset supported ide_dma_timeout func only: 14
hda: irq timeout status = 0x58 {driveready seekcomplete datarequest} <long
pause again>
hda: timeout waiting for DMA
repeats those last three lines about 7 times, then it says
hda: DMA disabled
ide0: reset: success
I dont have much experience with sysklogd, so im not sure what is going on.
The hdd is a Maxtor 8.4G drive, fairly new... maybe a year or so. I know it
supports DMA. How do I check it or turn off this attempt to run the drive
in DMA mode or whatever its trying to do..please fill me in. It is the
master on ide0 and the only other drive in the computer is a CD burner on
ide1
I have some other questions too, like the fact that i cant get my NIC to
work. Also for some reason I got a kernel panic earlier when it was just
sitting at the shell prompt with no processes running. But one thing at a
time.. I will post more on that stuff later if i cant get it working on my
own..
Just for the record, this is the exact same box I had at home running NAT
for my LAN and it worked flawlessly for 6 months running Mandrake. The only
difference is the NIC.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Brad
