[PLUG] Looking for hardware

First of all i haven't used this mailing list yet, but have been watching
and reading the posts, so i hope i have this addressed to the right place.
i have used UNIX and Linux to a very small extent.  However I'mm looking
into ordering parts and building a second box and installing Linux to laern
and play around with.  I was just wondering if anyone had any suguestions as
far as hardware configuration: cards, type, make, manufacture, ect or
anything that would be helpful before i start purchasing anything??
