This isn't true.  Apt-get will happily retrieve and downgrade packages.
I'm not sitting in front of my linux box right now, so I don't know the
exact syntax, but it's something like "apt-get install foo/stable" or
"apt-get install foo/1.2.3".  You're right that it's sometimes hard to
find mirrors that keep the old packages, but some do.

BTW, WTF does "Gender" issues mean?  How does gender apply to linux
distros?
