I've never used it myself, but I've heard good things about SquirrelMail
(http://squirrelmail.org/). I don't know if it has a good address book
built it, but it does have a plugin architecture
(http://squirrelmail.org/plugins.php) with what appears to be quite a few
plugins written so far.

HTH.
